On the 26th of July 2024, Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, was on his way to a district court at Sultanpur to respond to defamation allegations.

Rahul Gandhi had appeared at an MP-MLA court here on the 26th of July in a defamation case and said that it was filed for “cheap publicity”.

This is according to Kashi Prasad Shukla, Mr. Gandhi’s lawyer who told reporters: ‘Mr. Gandhi did not make any statement about anyone which could amount to defamation’.

In August 4, 2018; local BJP leader Vijay Mishra has lodged a complaint against Mr. Gandhi after he made comments against Amit Shah who was then the president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and now happens to be Minister of Home Affairs.

‘On that date when petitioner’s testimony will be taken down as a witness as per reliable sources,’ stated the court setting August 12 for hearing with out need for Gandhi being present before then.

Santosh Kumar Pandey advocate representing Mishra said that today before Justice S.P. Verma Mr.Gandhi recorded his statement and therefore evidence will be presented on August 12 th.

Earlier this year on February 20 Mr. Ghandi stopped his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Amethi, and went to the courtroom where he got bail.

At exactly 11 am, Congress workers showed up in large numbers at the civil court premises where Mr. Ghandi came in. He entered into courtroom number 15 where special judge is seated. The recording of his statement goes away from there.
