The Maharashtra Minister, Hasan Mushrif pledged to make the faulty system at civil hospitals foolproof after blood samples of Porsche crash were manipulated at Sassoon hospital in Pune. The Medical Education Minister made this assurance while speaking with journalists in Mumbai on May 30th.
Dr Ajay Taware, then head of forensic medicine department at Sassoon, medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and staff Atul Ghatkamble are under arrest for swapping blood samples of a teenager whom police say was driving the Porsche.
A case of drunk driving against a minor has been lodged by the police; two IT professionals lost their lives during this accident that occurred in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city in the early hours of May 19th.
“Dr. Ajay Taware had taken leave from work on that particular night but received a call from somebody. He took ₹3 lakh as bribe and called doctor halnor to sabotage with these blood samples which was wrong,” Mr. Mushrif said.
It emerged from police records that during investigations, one day after the incident happened, it was found out that another person’s sample had been brought much later to show no alcohol content. A highly placed source within the state public health department claimed she is his mother.
“There is a need for some changes, and there should be strict action taken to completely root out outside interference into hospital administration We will restructure the entire system so as to make it tamper-proof”, he added. “He will get” “a lifetime lesson” from our Department – Dr.Taware,” he added.
“The report stated that Dr. Kale did not perform his duties properly.” The minister responded when asked about Sassoon General Hospital Dean Dr. Vinayak Kale being put on leave,” The decision was based on what he said at press conference regarding my name.”
Dr. Kale had earlier indicted Mr. Mushrif as propagating rumors that he had granted additional charge of the post of medical superintendent to Dr. Taware.
