The Supreme Court was informed that protesting farmers are scheduled to meet Justice Nawab Singh, a retired Punjab and Haryana High Court who heads the high-powered committee to negotiate with the farmers, at 3 p.m. on Monday (January 6, 2025).
A Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant adjourned the hearing to Friday (January 10, 2025) while expressing hope that “better sense prevails upon everyone”.

The Bench said possibly the committee would also be filing a report on what transpired in the meeting.
Supreme Court judge, Justice Surya Kant, made it clear on Thursday (January 2, 2025) that efforts to hospitalise farmers’ leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal is not a ruse to derail his hunger strike. He lashed out at the Punjab government and other farmers’ leaders for deliberately creating such an impression in the media.

His companion judge on the Bench, Justice Ujjal Bhuyyan, separately questioned the Centre’s persisting reluctance to come out with a statement that its “doors are open” to consider the “genuine grievances” of the protesting farmers.
