A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister and president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.
According to The Federation of Professional Colleges of Telangana State, this problem was caused as the previous BRS government did not remit fee reimbursement dues amounting to Rs6, 500 Crore since 2020.
In their plea to A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister, the federation members Ravi Kumar (engineering colleges), T. Jaipal Reddy(pharmacy colleges) , Sudhir Kumar (MBA colleges) and S.Parameshwar Reddy (nursing colleges) wanted him to release funds for atleast tokens issued to college in the year 2021 but yet to be paid.
As at now Department of Finance had pending tokens worth 1500 crores of rupees some of which were by the Congress Government that resumed work last month in december,” they said. “We appreciate prompt token issuance lately; however, the schools will only survive if their arrears are paid promptly,” noted a memorandum submitted by the Federation members addressed to the Chief Minister.
They also said that students from batch 2020-21 graduated without paying school fees as former BRS government failed to pay back that money. In nine years no single college management attempted meeting his excellency KCR even after numerous attempts.” They complained.
Those schools employed their teachers who have been leaving due to nonpayment of salaries while it made life hard for students. Even though these options have now narrowed down during these past nine years or so college managements tried everything possible including borrowing loans but could not get any more loans,” said one representative among them. Property taxes due from over 90% colleges apart from university affiliation fees were provident fund ESI payments and income tax besides inspection fees payable on behalf All India Council for Technical Education and Universities.
The Federation reminded how well fee reimbursement system worked under earlier congress government until 2014 and requested the CM to continue clearing the dues at least on a quarterly basis.
