Victoria’s Secret, the synonymously glamorous lingerie giant behind the “angels” on its runway in skimpy outfits, is getting a dramatic overhaul. The brand has announced that it is replacing angels with Victoria’s Secret collective, consisting of seven accomplished women who will now serve as the face of Victoria’s Secret in order to change the image. Priyanka Chopra is part of it.

The New York Times reported & Cover Media reported too that over time, there have been increasing doubts about Victoria’s Secret. These models were white, skeletally thin ladies chosen for fitting into a very narrow beauty ideal. In addition, many marketing campaigns often relied on sexualized images while Ed Razek was highly criticize when he made discriminatory comments against large size women as well as transgender models further damaging its reputation. This lack of diversity led to a decrease in sales. Increasingly customers sought brands which catered to different body sizes or other ethnicities apart from traditional caucasian racial features resulting in decreased sales at victoria secret which once dominated the industry.
Victoria’s Secret has realized the need of a significant change and is now undergoing a brand overhaul. Victoria’s Secret collective, which was launch this week, marks a radical departure from the past of the brand. The new group of faces is not just another pretty one. The VS Collective consists of seven exceptional women who have made their mark in different walks of life. These voices include Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Megan Rapinoe, Adut Akech, Valentina Sampaio, Eileen Gu, Paloma Elsesser and Amanda de Cadenet.
In addition to being advocates for women issues dear to them, they will also see that these matter most among women so that it can become more relevant to its audience on social grounds. This makes consumers feel closer to Victoria’s Secret as it works hand-in-hand with them.
