Pongal packs to be sold through cooperatives in Perambalur

In an attempt to make available groceries required for Pongal celebrations at nominal rates, the Perambalur district administration has taken steps to sell packs of essential items through the outlets run by the Department of Cooperation in the district.

The packs would have necessary ingredients for making Pongal. The basic pack, christened ‘Innipu Pongal’ is priced at ₹199 and would have half a kg each of raw rice and jaggery, 100 gm of green gram (pasiparuppu), 5 cardamom and 50 gm each of cashew, Aavin ghee, and dry grapes in a small bag.

The Special Pongal pack, priced at ₹499, would have other grocery items including sugar, blackgram, turmeric powder, salt, gingelly oil, chillies, chilli powder, and spices.

The packs would be available in fair price shops, consumer cooperative stores, cooperative marketing societies, self service and other retail stores run by the Department of Cooperation, Collector Grace Pachuau, who inaugurated the sale of the packs recently, said in a press release.
