Uttar Pradesh Minister O.P. Rajbhar made scathing comments against Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav in a press conference held on September 12, 2024, regarding BJP’s allegations on the State being ‘capital of staged shoot-outs by the Government’.
Referring to the recent incident of encounter in Sultanpur, OP Rajbhar stated that police fired because they acted in self-defence. In an interaction with ANI he stated, “They fired in self defence. One has to be realistic, nobody will throw flowers at guilty people even when police from other side fires and Aadhaar card will not be asked. Thereafter, bullets were fired in self defence and one criminal sustained gunshot injury and died.”
He further questioned Kumara Akhilesh Yadav Mangesh Yadav in the context of that robbery that had occurred in Sultanpur. “We want to ask the leader of Samajwadi Party whether Mangesh Yadav took part in the loot during the Sultanpur incident or not?….Is that all that concerns you, Yadav?” he said.
The development comes after Akhilesh Yadav said that the government has targeted most people of Pichde, Dalit and Alpasankhyak (PDA) families in the many encounters.
“In Uttar Pradesh, many fingers have been pointed on many encounters …The government has aimed at most of the people of PDAs families in many encounters. BJP has made Uttar Pradesh the hotbed of venal encounters,” Mr. Yadav stated.
Turning to the latest skirmish, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak stated that, “Sultanpur encounter has raised the eyebrows of the Opposition. Taking the character of criminals, they are trying to explain it as one of their own.” “The criminals who had participated in it either died in the police encounter, or were caught,” he added.
While charging the Samajwadi Party, Mr Pathak stated that Mr Yadav did not support the person who was either a victim of the crime or a murder in the Sultanpur episode Mr Yadav lived through. Samajwadi party goes on asserting that castes are the basis for the encounters, ” this is the crutch that it resorts to, Mr Brahm Putra Pathak explained to the press because policemen have proved to be so meticulous and that the crime scene is not the ending rather it is only just the beginning and that evidence have been collected, and arrests have been made.
“In the case of Sultanpur robbery while a man died in an encounter another was arrested and in all more than two and a half kilograms of gold have been recovered from the thieves,” said Brahesh Pathak. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too took to task the BJP State government on its over tones on police encounters.
