Prakasam district police personnel were tough on immoral practices such as cross gender massage and extra services offered by spa centres, massage parlours and beauty saloons. In a recent development, the police officers conducted raids simultaneously in 18 spas within the municipality and arraigned three spa owners including their customers who were found to be involved in unethical activities.
In an interview with The Parami News, Prakasam District Superintendent of Police AR Damodar stated that several spas had been checked by different groups of Ongole police at once as part of the usual policing practice in towns. He added that this was a preventive measure to stifle illegal prostitution masquerading under beauty parlours or spas names.
However he denied having received any complaint about an organised sex racket in town. “We cannot allow cross gender massage because it would lead to commercial sex. The police raid is going to take place regularly on these spas alone for eliminating unlicensed business but their source of income will remain untouched. We want them to know that they should not engage themselves into such acts” said the SP.
At respective police stations, six customers along with their workers and owners were charged under sections 143 (2), 144 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 3, 4,and 5 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Strict action will be taken against anyone found carrying out illegitimate activities using spa or massage centers’ façade warned the policemen. Building owners have been advised against getting into problems through renting houses to unlicenced spas and recreation clubs.
