On Tuesday, 3rd September, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a tour to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, which happens to be the first ever offical tour by Indian Prime Minister to a South-East Asian nation.
“For the next two days, I will be in Brunei Darussalam and also visit Singapore. And in all these engagements these countries will be focused upon how to further strengthen the bonds of India with these countries,” Mr. Modi wrote on social media.
While leaving for Brunei Darussalam and Singapore earlier, Mr. Modi expressed pleasure for the forthcoming interactions with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other members of the Royal family to enhance the age old relationship to new dynamics.
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Mr. Modi will fly out from Brunei to Singapore.
“Though I am still in Paris, I am looking forward to the chance of meeting President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong…,” Mr. Modi said. He will also engage with the business leaders of Singapore exchanging Singapore business experience for expansion into global markets.
“Both countries are valued partners in the Act East policy cum Unified Indo-Pacific vision. I have no doubt that my visits will help in furthering my country’s relationship with Brunei, Singapore and the rest of the ASEAN region,” said Mr. Modi.
