On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping had told him during a telephone conversation that China would not sell arms to Russia. This information was given by the Ukrainian President during joint press conference with the US leader Joe Biden at the G7 summit in Italy.
However, he did not clarify when the talk happened.
Zelenskyy said, “I have had a firm conversation with (the) leader of China and he declared to me that he is not going to sell weapons to Russia.” If he’s (a) respectable individual, we shall see if it really happens because she gave her word.”
Joe Biden responded after Zelenskyy’s announcement. “What is interesting, China doesn’t supply weapons but supplies ability to manufacture these weapons and technologies for doing so are assisting Russia.”
The Ukrainian leader also said that Ukraine could hold talks with China provided they agreed on peace terms otherwise they can go ahead with an alternative “peace formula”.
Promoting his very own vision of peace in Ukraine, called his “peace formula”, Zelenskyy has been active lately.
A number of countries and organizations will have their representatives attending a summit on how to bring peace back in Ukraine starting from this weekend. Switzerland will host this international meeting.
This was known from the last known phone call between Xi and Zelensky held sometime in April 2023 since Russia invaded fully blown Ukraine.
