It was shot during 40 days that were full of pressure but that captured Mumbai at its most vibrant before turning into a calm coastal town of Ratnagiri. The French-Indian collaboration was executed by Parisian producers Hakim and Julien Graff from Petit Chaos as well as Zico Maitra from Chalk & Cheese Films of Mumbai.
This is a touching exploration about female desire and urban complexity. A story about Nurse Prabha who has been given as an unexpected present by her estranged husband after leading the same boring life. Nurse Prabha shares her tiny apartment with Anu, her younger roommate, as she tries to create room for privacy with her boyfriend. Their aspirations push them towards seeking refuge in their dreams. A weekend away on a peaceful beach town becomes instrumental in helping both change personally allowing their longings to grow under open skies.
Malayalam and Hindi are used bilingually in presenting this film that provides delicate insight into modern day India womanhood.
A Night of Knowing Nothing, which was nominated for Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes premiered in France and was awarded Golden Eye prize thus propelling this filmmaker to greater heights.
