According to officials, a part of the fabric canopy collapsed on June 27 due to the build-up of water during heavy downpour at Dumna airport in Katni in Madhya Pradesh and smashed a car that was parked beneath.
No injuries were reported and this happened around 11:30 am.
“The drop-and-go area has been beautified with a fabric canopy. The water collected there because it rained. It broke under the weight of the rainwater and the water came crashing down heavily onto an automobile parked there,” said Rajeev Ratna Pandey, Airport Director to PTI.
Project officer was directed to conduct a probe into this matter and strict instructions have been given so that such incidents do not reoccur, he added.
On March this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated virtually ₹450-crore new terminal building of Dumna airport.
The sources said that an income tax official had traveled inside it. When one section of the cover fell onto the car, thereby breaking it down,” said them adding that the driver had gone inside to see off the official.
