According to a statement by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on 12th June, the first sitting of the 18th Lok Sabha will be held on 24th June 2024 to enable newly elected members to take their oaths of office or affirmations.
The new session begins with the process of swearing-in and election of speaker which will take place over three days after which work proper will begin.
The session will conclude on July 3.
On June 27, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to outline the roadmap for the next five years of governance by addressing both houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Bookmarked as “First session of 18th Lok Sabha is being summoned from 24-6-24 to 3-7-24 for oath/affirmation of newly elected members, election of Speaker, President’s address and discussion thereon,” said Rijiju in a x post
He further added that The Rajya Sabha (Council of States) would have its own session which is known as Session No.264 which would also start on June 27 and wind up on July 3rd . This could be followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi introducing his council of ministers to Parliament after Presidential address on June twenty seven.
It is expected that opposition will corner NDA Government over a range issues during debate on motion of thanks to president’s speech; Mr. Prime Minister has promised to reply to this in both houses of Parliament.
