The first Budget Session of the 18th Lok Sabha started in Parliament on July 22. This session is planned to comprise 16 sittings and is expected to end on August 12. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh straight Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, breaking the record of Morarji Desai, former Prime Minister. It was the first budget from the BJP-led NDA government after they were re-elected in June.
The Congress alleged that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Union Budget discriminated against Opposition-ruled States and said she only mentioned projects for two States in her speech. On Tuesday, the Opposition demanded a debate on Wayanad landslide which left more than 123 people dead and many displaced.
