Om Birla, the Lok Sabha Speaker, is responsible for conducting the monsoon session of parliament in New Delhi.
In his letter to the Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manish Tewari revealed that there have been “continuing border clashes between India and China” from 2019.
“I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: That this House do suspend Zero Hour and relevant rules relating to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to have a discussion on the border situation and teh huge trade deficit with China,” Mr.Tewari said in teh adjournment motion notice.
Simultaneously, on Friday August 2nd 2024, The leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed that Enforcement Directorate will conduct searches against him after he made ‘chakravyuh’ speech in Parliament.
Mr. Gandhi said he was “waiting with open arms”. The matter is expected to come up in Parliament on August 2nd 2024.
On Thursday, an opposition attack began after a leak sprung through a roof with congress making an adjournment motion on it for discussion. Today’s proceedings are also likely to be dominated by it.
Also, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai introduced Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in Lok Sabha today i.e. on Thursday, August 1st, 2024. The proposed law seeks creation of “disaster database at national and state level,” and makes provisions for constitution Urban Disaster Management Authority” for State capitals and large cities having municipal corporations except UTs like Delhi and Chandigarh.
Such matters that will be contained in our database include disaster assessment records; fund allocation details; expenditure; preparedness/mitigation plans; risk registers according to type and severity of risk; and other such relevant matters, as may be determined by the Central government consistent with such policy.
The budget session in which it started on July 22 is expected to end on August 12.
