The Congress will introduce an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha on Friday, August 9, 2024. She was disqualified from the Paris Olympics finals for the 50kg category just two days ago.
The government introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha on Thursday notwithstanding opposition by some parties to some of its provisions.
The proposed legislation seeks to enhance accountability and transparency in waqf boards including, among other things, obligatory involvement of women. The opposition opposed it and demanded that it should be referred to a parliamentary standing committee for further consultation.
In another development on Thursday Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar left his chair or a while and said that he did not “get any support at all.” Tempers flared after Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar denied the Opposition’s request for discussion on Vinesh Phogat disqualification from Olympics. Then Mr. Dhankhar returned back to his seat again soon after lunch break.
