LAHORE: The Punjab government of Pakistan has permitted additional cases to be registered against jailed previous premier Imran Khan, as well as his party faithful, for inciting hatred among members of the state institutions above all the influential Pakistani army. This 71-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has remained incarcerated since August of last year following his conviction in some of almost 200 uprisings on him since he was overthrown in April 2022.
After the Friday’s evening cabinet meeting, Provincial Information Minister Azma Bokhari said that “The Punjab Cabinet headed by Maryam Nawaz approved legal action against founder-leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and other party leaders for creating a hate narrative against state institutions”.
The minister said this about Khan trying to become a Mujeeb Ur Rehman (Bangladesh). Mujeeb Ur Rehman had successfully led Bangladesh independence movement against Pakistan. He became first prime minister of Bangladesh in 1971.
Bokhari also mentioned that those who meet with Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail emulate him in perpetuating hatred towards the institution.
She further added that, according to her, the Punjab provincial government is probably going to bring Kasan and others into criminal proceedings for writing an article in British newspapers after having received a complaint from journalist.
In an article published earlier this month by Telegraph newspaper, Khan claimed that each and every tactic employed by military establishment under direct guidance of Gen Asim Munir; chief of Army staff just failed when it came to diminishing his political presence from Political environment Pakistan.
“The oppression, torture and denial of our election symbol have been extensively documented, but nothing has worked for the military and the powerless civilian leadership acting as its puppets”, he stated. Pakistan general elections on February 8 2024 exhibited total failure of such design.
“In a country where the vast majority of voters are guided by a party symbol and there is not even one such symbol, the people came out and voted massively for candidates supported by my party—PTI despite standing as ‘independents’ with an assortment of diverse symbols”, he stated.
The democratic revenge from the people of Pakistan against military establishment’s policy was therefore a national defiance by the people, as well as a comprehensive rejection of May 9, 2023 official state narrative when PTI supporters were falsely accused – as a justification for action – for attacking military installations.
“Rather than accepting the mandate given to it by the people, the military establishment went into frenzy and manipulated electoral results to bring losers into power. The constitutional operation of state institutions ought to be restored; everything has been done to me since then by them” now they have only left killing me said Khan.
“I have publicly stated that if anything happens to me or my wife, it will be General Asim Munir’s responsibility. But I am not scared because I am strong in faith. I would rather die than live under bondage,” Khan wrote on his website.
