The ex-employee also called her line of work a “danger” for her body and brain. Long working hours, unpredictable hours and dependence on food 24/7 were some of the reasons given. After quitting the job in June, Ouyang has found her health condition getting better.

In as much as the Chinese labour laws enforce that a worker be allowed not to work for more than 40 hours a week, this has been flouted by a number of companies. The ‘996’ work culture – working, Mondays to Saturdays, from 9A.M. to 9P.M. is still rampant, especially among tech companies.
According to Zuo Xiaoxia who works in the Nutrition Department of the 309 hospital of People’s liberation army which is in charge of Health Times, late dinners, overeating as well as lack of sleep leads to overwork fatigue as a consequence of the obesity epidemic. She recommended more vegetables, less meat, regular food timing, and physical activity within the everyday routine to remain healthy.
