There have been 8,290 cases of the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) and during its raid from January to May this year, it has arrested 8,362 people who were indulging in bootlegging in Villupuram district.
Also, seized from the scene of crime was 79,727 bottles of IMFL brought secretly into Puducherry via illegal routes, 6,080 litres of toddy and 511 litres fermented wash which were illicitly distilled arrack. In addition to this, twelve cars and forty six motorcycles were recovered through this exercise. The operation marked a great success as about two hundred fifty villages within that area ceased producing locally brewed illegal liquor.
