Mugaru Samskritika Raichuru Habba, a three-day annual sports and cultural festival to celebrate Kaara Hunnime, the farmer’s maiden festival of the monsoon season, will be held from June 21 to 23, at Rajendra Gunj in Raichur city in Karnataka.
This is the 24th edition of the annual festival, which is jointly organised by Munnuru Kapu (Balija) Samaj and the Agriculture Produce and Marketing Committee.
However this has not happened yet; nevertheless there is great expectation among people about money coming from state government.
“Mungaru Samskritika Raichuru Habba that takes place every year needs lakhs of rupees for its organization. The Munnur Kapu (Balija) Samaj members contribute donations as well as traders who are members of AMPC to support this three-day long event,” said A. Papareddy, former MLA and president of the event speaking with The Hindu.
Other activities include lifting stones and bags filled with sand in addition to wrestling while folk songs, drama, dollu kunita and traditional dances of Karnataka make up some cultural performances.
A total amount expended on this three-day event sums to ₹50 lakh,” added Mr.Papareddy.
Last year organizers asked for assistance from Government offices. Elected representatives promised that they would follow it up with the government. However no financial support has been received so far.
“The Munnuru Kapu (Balija) Samaj is mobilizing funds on its own. Nevertheless it should be realized by the government how complex it is to stage such an event in Kalyana Karnataka region and therefore let go of some money for it like what happens during Kambala,” concluded Mr.Papareddy.
