The leader of Kisan Congress, Anvesh Reddy has criticized the opposite political parties for their comments against the government’s decision to pay ₹500 more per quintal only on fine variety rice (sannalu). He also said that the government would ensure that farmers who grow normal variety of rice were not left out in such matters.
Mr. Reddy told reporters at Gandhi Bhavan yesterday that opposition politicians made irresponsible statements without understanding the difference between sannalu and other varieties of rice like doddu, as well as market rates of both types.“Fourteen lakh acres was under sannalu this year while 32 lakh acres was under doddu. Sannalu is sold at a higher price than doddu because it is in high demand by private millers. However, both get same MSP from Centre,” Mr. Reddy clarified before adding that Telangana is now buying in some fine rice grain from outside states owing to market requirements.
The former Chief Minister KC Rao had pledged a bonus worth ₹150 per quintal for sannalu because it is to be distributed through PDS by the government itself.Mr. Reddy also accused former CM BRS-led governments of conspiring with millers on previous corrupt deals.
