Operation Bhediya: A wolf belonging to a pack which reportedly has killed at least seven people being taken in a cage after being apprehended in the Bahraich district August 29 2024.
Coming under ‘Operation Bhediya’ of the Uttar Pradesh forest department, a team caught a full grown male wolf on Thursday August 29 2024 which aims to net a pack of wolf out on snooping spree in Mehsi tehsil of Bahraich district Bert who has seven heads to his credit.
In all, so far the department has nabbed four uninhibited wolves.
The incharge of ‘Operation Bhediya’ Barabanki DFO Akashdeep Badhawan said a male wolf was caught in one of the traps placed near sisaya chudamani village in the morning. “The animal caught is adult male fully” he added.
The animals have killed six children and one woman in Bahraich in the last month and a half, with the latest incident occurring in a village on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday on August 26 2024 and August 27 2024.
Wolf capture has been facilitated through the use of drone cameras and thermal drone mapping techniques by the forest department. Civil authorities have accepted the requirement to use tranquilizers on the wild creatures, as has been confirmed by an official communication.

Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Principal Chief Forest Conservator (Wildlife) Sanjay Srivastava said “16 teams were working to fuse the wolves and 12 officers are also stationed here at district level.”
He further added, “Additional Principal Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh shall stay on the ground till all the remaining wolves are captured.”
