A day after it was born, the newborn baby of a tribal couple at Attappady has died on Wednesday. It was around 11 a.m when the neonatal death of Deepa’s female child took place at Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur. Several neonatal deaths have been reported from Attappady recently.
Deepa aged 21 years and wife to Manikandan hails from Vellakulam hamlet near Sholayur and she is suffering from sickle cell anaemia. Her first delivery was through cesarian section on Tuesday.
The doctors said that this newborn had severe ventriculomegaly which is a condition in which the brain ventricles are enlarged due to build up of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is a fluid that surrounds and cushions the brain and cord.
This infant weighed only 1.1 kg during birth.
