In Vadapudupatti village near Ambur town in Tirupattur, a 60-year-old woman died and seven others were injured after a tempo traveller rammed into an already parked private bus which had hit the median of Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The victim was identified by the police as S. Thilagam from Chennai. She was travelling in her car with husband K. Sangitharaman (70), while son S. Parameswaran (37) was driving it. They were going to Yelagiri Hills in Tirupattur for the weekend. At one point during their journey, Parameswaran unexpectedly lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a median. Due to this, a privately owned omnibus ferrying approximately forty passengers from Chennai to Erode stopped some meters off where the accident happened.
However, a tempo traveller carrying ten tourists from Chennai to Bengaluru crashed against that parked private bus.The suddenness of this impact resulted in five occupants of the tempo van and two occupants of mutilated car being injured.This occurred at around 4:30 am.
Immediately after that local residents and motorists who saw what happened saved the injured people.It led them also calling Ambur Taluk police department as well as 108 ambulances.Those who got hurt were taken to Government Taluk Hospital of Ambur where she succumbed.A case has been registered.
Traffic came to halt for nearly one hour before traffic police cleared it completely again.
