Personnel of the CRPF are in charge of security at the strongroom set up at Nimra College in Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district on Tuesday.
The voter turnout for the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the NTR district is 79.36 percent of registered voters, slightly up from 78.94 and 77.28 respectively during the previous elections that were held last year and five years before.
However, there was an enormous difference between total electors and votes polled in all three Assembly constituencies of Vijayawada. For instance, while Vijayawada West has 2,55,963 electors , only 1,70,104 voted which represented (clocked) a minimum of 66.46%.
Similarly, Vijayawada Central had a poll percentage of 72.92% with respect to its electorate constituted by 2 lakh and seventy seven thousand seven hundred twenty four voters . And then three other Assembly segments namely Vijayawada East (71%), Tiruvuru (71%), Nandigama (71%) with each segment having more than one lakh nine hundred thousand voters; actually turned out more than seventy percent.
On the other hand, four other constituencies – Nandigama, Jagayyapeta, Tiruvuru and Mylavaram under the Vijayawada Parliamentary Constituency of NTR district had minimal variations between numbers of electors and votes casted by them. The highest turnout was observed at Jagayyapeta where it was recorded as being 89.88%, followed by Tiruvuru (87.68%), but Nandigama came third with its own percentage being equal to that as well at percentage of 87.56%.
The residents’ calls for boycotting polls in Gandepalli village as a way to make officials intervene on pollution emanating from Sentini BioProducts Pvt. Ltd., a factory, saw the lowest polling. Such metropolis dwellers as M. Muralidhar Reddy for example who together with others were against the plant did not vote.
The overall turnout for both the elections in Krishna district was 84.45%. The highest percentage of votes cast was 88.57% out of Pedana, then Pamarru (88.11%), Avanigadda (86%), Gannavaram (84.88%), Gudivada (82.51%), Machilipatnam (81.91%) and Penumaluru (79.14%).
