Kapil Sibal, a member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha. Mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Mohan Bhagwat’s concern about peace not being present in Manipur by saying that it is “not in the DNA” of the PM to heed opposition’s advice but he should listen to RSS boss.
New NDA government should learn from mistakes and not repeat what happened in last ten years of BJP led government”, warned Mr. Sibal.
“I have been saying this for months; this environment is created with statements ‘us versus them’. I would like to move forward. “They welcome the statement of Mohan Bhagwat,” he said.
On Monday, Mr. Bhagwat expressed his concern about Manipur remaining peaceful even after one year and insisted that the situation in this troubled north-eastern state must be given priority attention.
While speaking at a meeting with RSS trainees during Valedictory function of “Karyakarta Vikas Varg- Dwitiya” programme organised at Dr Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan premises in Reshimbagh here. Mr. Bhagwat added that conflict anywhere and all over does not make good influence on society.
Mr. Sibal told media, “I have been repeating this for many months now when I was in Rajya Sabha between 1998-2004 there was Vajpayee Government. Many times I heard his speeches and used to say Opposition ‘Pratipaksh’ Keh kar kehta tha Virodhi tum hamare virodhi nahin ho PM Modi ne Opposition ‘Virodhi’ bana diye.”
“We were concerned about Manipur – now says so did Bhagwat ji You don’t listen to us because you are not used to listening to us but listen to him. It is not your nature to listen to us. Manipur should be given priority. I had called for the removal of CM N Biren Singh, but you did not remove the ex-wrestling body chief. What will you do about the CM?” said Mr. Sibal.
The opposition must make its voice heard; and only then can this country move forward.
Mr. Sibal criticized the government over Reasi attack in Jammu and Kashmir, saying they withdrew Article 370 but look at where we are now.
“Who won against Omar Abdullah… After five years (since abrogation of Article 370) has Kashmir changed? You said very soon there will be elections why can’t they have elections” he asked.
“Wherever they (the BJP) involve themselves problems arise because they don’t have the thinking to run government. They only have desire for power,” alleged Mr. Sibal.
Mr. Sibal also urged Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar to ensure that opposition voices are heard in the Upper House.
Jawaharlal Nehru and PM Modi cannot be compared”, he said.
“You were a BJP PM twice and an NDA PM the third time. The thinking Nehru ji had you can never have,” he said.
In an earlier post on X, Kapil Sibal wrote,. “Modi ji: Attend to: Rising militancy in Kashmir (Reasi) Manipur Social unrest Unemployment Inflation. You won’t listen to us. That’s not in your DNA. At least listen to Bhagwat ji! And then go to Vivekananda Rock Memorial and do ‘dhyaan’ without a camera!”
