Northern District Of Illinois an Indian American Physician admitted having pleaded guilty to US’ federal healthcare fraud charges of billing Medicaid and private insurers for nonexistent services.
For Mona Ghosh, who owns and operates Progressive Women’s Health Care where she provides obstetrics and gynecology services, admitted two counts of healthcare fraud.
Federal prison has each count up to ten years in sentence.
US District Judge Franklin U Valderrama fixes October 22 as the day when sentencing will take place.
Ghosh is accused by government lawyers of being responsible for at least $2.4 million in fraudulent claims reimbursements.
According to her plea agreement, she acknowledged that more than $1.5 million were involved in such fraudulent reimbursements.
The amount will be finalised during sentencing as per a press release from media houses.
“The Northern District of Illinois charge states that between 2018 and 2022, Ghosh submitted false claims to Medicaid, TRICARE and many other insurance companies for procedures and services that were not done or medically unnecessary; some without patient consent,” said the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois through one statement.
“Ghosh also artificially inflated in-office visits and telemedicine encounters by overstating their length and complexity using billing codes that would support higher reimbursement rates even though the visits did not qualify under those codes.” This was found out when she confessed about making fallacious patients medical records for the purpose of getting fraudulent reimbursement claims.
