KULLU: Former US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi together with a distinguished congress delegation visited His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala on Wednesday where she directed strong words at President of China Xi Jinping. She said that “His Holiness, the Dalai Lama with his compassion, purity of soul and love will live for a long time and his legacy will live forever. But you, Mr. President of China you’ll be gone and nobody will give you credit for anything.”

Pelosi criticized the Chinese campaign to erase Tibetan culture “by reducing the use of Tibetan language”. According to her; “The ethnic Han population is being assimilated with the Tibetan population in Tibet. We have seen in Tibet that the Chinese govt is trying to educate Tibetan children in the Chinese way to reduce the knowledge of the Tibetan language… They (China) are trying something that we cannot let them get away with.”

In McLeodganj, Pelosi announced before an audience comprising of a few Tibetan residents and officials from Central Tibetan Administration that President Joe Biden would soon sign Resolve Tibet Act, which is a bipartisan legislation aimed at pressuring Beijing over Tibet issue. “Things have changed. The passage of this bill is a message to the Chinese govt that we have clarity in our thinking and our understanding of this issue of freedom … This legislation would soon be signed by President Biden,” she said.

Michael McCaul who chairs House Foreign Affairs Committee stated categorically that US would not tolerate any attempts by PRC authorities to influence or determine future line up of spiritual leaders among Tibetans. The delegation was warned given by Communist Party Of China not to visit their spiritual leader. This letter was sent after they claimed falsely again that “Tibet has been part of China since 13th Century.” Nonetheless, we were not cowed down by CCP.
