There is a decrease in missing, IPC and CrPC cases registered in Anantapur district during the year 2024 while the district witnessed an increase in cases registered under the Special Local Laws (SLL). The increase in SLL cases was due to the enforcement done during the election to crackdown on flow of illicit liquor and also on gambling and illegal sand transportation, Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh said.

Speaking at the annual year ender press briefing, Mr. Jagadeesh said the number of bodily crime (murders, attempt to murder, rioting, kidnap and hurt) cases have increased during the current year when compared to the previous year. In 2023, a total of 956 bodily offence cases have been registered while the same have increased to 1,051 this year.

There has been a decrease in POCSO cases by 8% when compared to last year, Mr. Jagadeesh said. However, the cases related to crime against women have increased, he added.

There has been an 8% decrease in road accidents. While 319 fatal road accidents took place last year, this year, the numbers have come down to 294. The district police achieved 51% property recovery rate this year. Of the 529 cases of robberies and thefts, the police solved 289 of them. Of the more than ₹7.31 crore property lost in these cases, the police have recovered property worth ₹3.76 crore.

The number of white collar offences, including cheating and cyber crimes, have come down by 25%. While 377 white collar crimes were reported last year, this year 283 cases were registered, the SP said. The police could achieve conviction in 77 cases during the year.

When it comes to enforcement, the police have registered 15 NDPS cases, arrested 63 persons, seized 60,955 kilos of ganja worth ₹4.70 lakh and recovered ₹38,000 cash and 33 mobile phones. The police have also arrested 3,250 gamblers and registered 1,192 cases related to gambling and recovered more than ₹1.98 crore cash.

A total of 14,029 cases were registered with respect to open consumption of alcohol and 2,314 drunken driving cases were registered during the year.

Mr. Jagadeesh said the average response time to the calls received on Dial 100 and 112 was 12 minutes. The police received 20,346 calls and the response time was six minutes in urban areas and it was 18 minutes in rural areas.
