Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar has said that there is no archaeological or historical proof to suggest the existence of Lord Ram.
“We celebrate Rajendra Chola’s birthday because we have evidence such as inscriptions, temples made by him and the lake that he created since he was an emperor of the Chola dynasty. However, there is no way to trace Ram’s origin,” he stated at a program held in Sri Brihadeeswara Temple at Gangaikondacholapuram to commemorate 100 years of Rajendra Chola.
The Ayodhya Ram Temple, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year, was also mentioned by Mr. Sivasankar who argued that the claim was that Lord Rama existed three thousand years ago. But there was “no history” to prove this belief. “They say Ram is an avatar. If Ram were an avatar it would mean he is not born. If he were born it would mean he could not be a god,” responded the minister.
He claimed that these assertions are used just for misguiding people so as to elevate their own claims against suppressing Tamil history.
According to his perspective, some mandatory steps taken by ex-chief minister M Karunanidhi illustrated Tamil culture and civilization and developed its identity which had been clearly laid out by him regarding Tamils’ identity and culture for example being at front line against forcing them on us over centuries like epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha.” Those were not Tamil epics; they had nothing on life lessons or moral values,” insisted Mr. Sivasankar in a function organized jointly by district administration, department of Tourism and Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department.
