In Odisha’s Angul district, NLCIL has been granted a coal block by Union Coal Ministry.
An official revealed that Machhakata (Revised) coal block in Angul district of Odisha was successfully awarded to NLCIL under commercial coal block e-auction held in July.
For the second time now, NLC India has won a commercial coal mine block after North Dhadu Coal Block (Western Part) with the company committed to its capacity addition consistent with the vision of achieving over 100 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) by 2030 from current 50 MTPA.
“Coal is expected to be produced from the Machhakata block will help in addressing energy security indigenously and also clear way for other options like gasification for producing cleaner energy from coal thereby fulfilling sustainability criteria,” added an official statement.
The peak rated capacity of Machhakata coal mine is 30 million tonnes per annum while it has reserves amounting to 1.38 billion tonnes.
The Ministry of Coal through its officials Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairperson cum Managing Director (CMD), NLCIL; Suresh Chandra Suman, Director Mines; M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary and nominated Authority executed the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement (CMDPA) of Machhakata (Revised) Coal Mine (30 MTPA). The ceremony was held at Ministry of Coal in New Delhi on Monday July 15th 2024.
