On June 3, nine people from Bengaluru died in a blizzard while returning to the base camp from the peak during Sahastra Tal trek in Uttarakhand.
There were 22 persons including trekkers and guides, they were all part of the expedition. After being informed on Tuesday night, 13 people were saved by the Karnataka government working with Indian Air Force and Civil helicopters facilitated through Uttarakashi district administration, Uttarakhand government and Union Home Department.
Eight out of the survivors reached Dehradun State guest house after receiving initial medical aid yesterday whereas five more are expected to make it there today.
Krishna Byre Gowda, Revenue Minister has gone to Uttarakhand to coordinate rescue efforts.

“Those eight who are now in Dehradun state guest house are okay. We hope that five others will arrive tomorrow subjecting to weather conditions. We are liaising with local authorities to ferry all nine bodies (five currently in Uttarkashi and four still on the trekking route) to Dehradun subjecting to weather patterns as well. At the same time we’re planning for their transportation at earliest convenience,” Mr. Gowda confirmed.
The five are known as Sindhu Vakekalam, Asha Sudhakar, Sujatha Mungurwadi, Vinayak Mungurwadi and Chitra Praneeth; four others remain unnamed yet.
