On August 5, a senior official confirmed that not less than nine Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were died of electrocution and two others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were on made contact with a high-tension overhead wire in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The incident occurred at Sultanpur village which is located within Industrial police station area around 11.15 p.m on Sunday.
If there is any omission, those responsible will face the law.
Yashpal Meena, The District Magistrate of Vaishali told Parami News that “Nine pilgrims (Kanwariyas) lost their lives while two got injured when their vehicle’s upper part touched an electric current carrying wire in Sultanpur village under Industrial police station jurisdiction. They were bound for Baba Harihar Nath Temple in Sonepur to perform Jalabhishek”,
“They took not the designated path marked out for Kanwariyas. Two injured people have been taken to hospital; both are said to be stable”, he noted adding that “the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.”
According to him, the district administration has ascertained the identity of the dead from Vaishali and surrounding regions and each next-of-kin received ₹4 lakh ex-gratia payment.
He added that we are still investigating it.
Earlier, three had been reportedly injured according to Rambabu Baitha, the Sub-Divisional Officer Hajipur-Sadari.
