In a press conference held on Thursday in Toronto, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced the termination of a supply and confidence agreement with the Liberal government by stating that the relation ‘achieved a lot’ for Canadians, especially the poor families.
Singh cited the ‘Real Change’ of the introduction of a dental-care program and the advance on the national pharmacare program readiness as achievements that were made under the Liberal and NDP agreement. “We got dental care for millions of Canadians; we’re able to get the first steps on pharmacare to be able to get things done that are going to make people’s lives better,” Singh told the press.
However, these achievements were noted by Singh, only to testify the incompetence of Trudeau’s Government to make enduring changes. “It became very apparent to me, why Justin can only go this far. Big ambitions for the sake of big corporations that are robbing Canadians of their money- that is Justin’s aversion,” Singh said.
It came as Singh had uploaded an explanatory video siding “I had ripped up the deal” with them who had been criticised for not honoring the agreement next day. Singh attacked the growing Conservative Party in the run-up to the next federal election, and positioned the NDP as a party that could fight against the rising tide of the Conservatives Party.
Singh has not dismissed the notion of possibly supporting a non-confidence motion which, without a doubt, would sink the minority Liberal government, instead observed that an election is now ‘closer than before’.
The confidence and supply agreement that was launched in March 2022, was meant to ensure that the Liberals are in government until June 2025. To orient the liberal party to certain policies including dental care program and national pharmacare the NDP’s backing was bought on critical votes.
Looking to back the Liberal party, Singh said the NDP would make a call on each piece of legislation in the future on a vote by vote approach.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Trudeau who traveled to Newfoundland and Labrador attempted to spice up the politics, stressing that he is eager to continue working with regards to fundamental issues. “I really hope the NDP concentrates on how we can help Canadians turn out, which we have done in the last several years and not is turned out on politics;” stated Trudeau. He waved any predictions in relation to any such election date; however, Trudeau in response to the situation did suggest that such a vote would occur in 2024 since the next federal elections in Canada have to take place by October 2025.
