X (formerly known as Twitter) will hold “town hall” meetings with the Republican Party’s presidential nominee Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy, an independent candidate in the November elections of this year.
This comes as the social media site owner, Elon Musk, seems to be gravitating towards Trump who is said to be considering him for a position at the White House if he wins, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week.
He tweeted on Friday that these occasions “will be interesting.” Axios had earlier reported about it.
Neither did the former president nor Kennedy say when their forums would take place although they will be partnering with NewsNation cable network during that occasion.
Joe Biden too was invited but a source close to his campaign told AFP that he wouldn’t take part as he continued preparing for his planned pair of debates against President Trump.
Twitter since its 2022 acquisition by Musk has taken a noticeably rightward leaning posture, including restoring accounts of right wing conspiracies and even Trump himself.
Several efforts have been made by the platform to lure conservative politicians, such as hosting Q&A session when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared intention to vie for Republican party’s presidency.
Nevertheless, this launch event was fraught with hitches. Subsequently, DeSantis dropped out from the race and endorsed Trump.
Musk has turned into another xenophobic conspiracy theorist using his X account where misinformation meets immigration-issues-hard-liner-Trump-like comments alongside donating money in the past for Democrats’ campaigns .
Despite this however; South African-born tech genius will not offer monetary support either to current president or former vice in this year’s polls.
