On Tuesday, August 20, ZEE5 released the explosive trailer of its upcoming original series Murshid. The lead role in this gritty criminal epic belongs to Kay Kay Menon, who is flanked by Zakir Hussain, Tanuj Virwani and Rajesh Shringarpure playing other key roles. This show has been designed to provide viewers with a thrilling mix of crime, action and drama starting from the busy streets of Mumbai to the beautiful high-rises in Dubai and old lanes in Allahabad.

Through Murshid, we are promised an environment where “Bhai” does not mean family and sometimes blood relations can be plotted against you. In the trailer, the audience is taken through the underbelly of Mumbai’s underworld where retired gangster, Murshid Pathan (Kay Kay Menon) is forced back into a life he had left behind.
Once Farid (Zakir Hussain), his archenemy implicates Murshid’s son in a dangerous conspiracy theory then this former kingpin must now navigate a world full of shifting alliances, political schemes and personal vendettas. While protecting his kinship ties as well as his legacy, Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana (Tanuj Virwani) persues him having been adopted by him while Jayendra (Rajesh Shringarpure), an ambitious politician manipulates him as well.
Nevertheless even though it seems that Murshid has got everything under control at last a shocking betrayal jeopardizes all what he has fought most passionately about leaving everybody asking themselves amongst traitors who could really be trusted?
In an interview about his role as Murshid Pathan; Kay Kay Menon stated that; ”Playing Murshid Pathan in this intense gangster thriller was truly exciting for me. I am always drawn to complex characters and Murshid is one of such- a former don turned philanthropist, pulled back into the underworld to protect his family.” Just the trailer only touches on that journey. It’s a relatable tale about how far father can go for his family. Can’t wait till it premieres on ZEE5.
Farid in “Murshid” – Zakir Hussain spoke about playing this role saying, “This character is a powder keg of ambition and aggression, constantly pushing the boundaries of power in Mumbai’s underworld.” The complexity of Farid’s mind interests me; he wants to wipe out Murshid’s legacy but fails due to his volatile disposition.” It is an electrifying depiction of a modern day Don torn between past respect and new age cruelty. “I’m excited for viewers to witness this intense power struggle and see how Farid’s journey unfolds in the show”.
Adding, Tanuj Virwani playing the role of police inspector Kumar Pratap Rana said, “It has been an amazing journey being part of ‘Murshid’, especially sharing screen space with powerhouses like Kay Kay Menon and Zakir Hussain.” Kumar Pratap Rana is a character caught in an emotional swirl. The world of Kumar, a Police Inspector who was adopted and brought up by Murshid Pathan after losing his parents turns to chaos when he suspects that Murshid had something to do with his tragic past. Nevertheless, through all this turmoil love for his foster father remains steadfast within him as it always has. It’s about mixed loyalties and lastingness of blood ties.
This movie has been produced by Sandeep Patel while Shravan Tiwari directed it; Murshid is scheduled to premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on August 30th.
