Sharad Pawar, the head of NCP (SP) indicated on Monday (August 12, 2024) that Muhammad Yunus, the interim government leader in Bangladesh is a “secular” leader who will ensure that there are no differences between people of different communities in this country next door.
Hindus have suffered violence in Bangladesh after the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Since this unrest began with students protesting against quotas and eventually turned into a mass movement against then PM Sheikh Hasina that led to her being forced out of office; crime against Hindus and destruction of their temples have become rife.
The 84-year old economist Yunus was sworn in as the chief advisor to the interim Bangladeshi government on Thursday- an equivalent position to that of prime minister.
“He said so while talking to journalists at Pune. He added, ‘From what I know about him he is a sectary person.” “He will not work towards creating divisions among different linguistic groups or religious communities,” “Pawar said in Pune. It is now important for Bangladesh to take a middle ground which can improve matters over there.”
Pawar also revealed that Yunus had come to Pune many years ago.
