Although the frequency of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh has gone down significantly, it is alleged that minority communities are currently facing fresh challenges which include alleged forced resignations, threat to leave the country and extortion. There have been reports of significant transitions in government offices, autonomous bodies, schools and colleges with reports indicating that employees who come from Hindu, Buddhist and Christian backgrounds resigned under duress.
The secretary-general of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad Rana Dasgupta said in an interview with TOI that he had received about 10-12 complaints over the last few days regarding minorities being pushed into quitting jobs through threats and harassment. According to him his group was still investigating these allegations’ truthfulness. The advocate further added there is also an increasing trend of extortions where minorities are told to pay money or face forceful expulsion from their own country. However, at this point in time he mentioned no more houses belonging to minority population have been attacked nor looting of property valuables occurred as well as torching temples around here.
