According to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a merchant ship which reported an incident in the Red Sea on Wednesday was struck by a small boat.
Two anonymous maritime sources stated that the vessel has sustained damage indicating an intentional attack; this includes the engine room being hit.
This incident occurred about 67.7 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah Port, Yemen, according to UK based security firm Ambrey.
Ambrey said, “The vessel aligned with the Houthi target profile at the time of the incident”.
The Greek company managing the ship could not be reached for comment immediately.
Yemen’s capital and its most populous areas are controlled by Houthi militants who since November have attacked international shipping in the Red Sea area, to show solidarity with Palestinians during Israel and Hamas war, drawing counter U.S. and British strikes since February.
