In a new book by royal journalist Robert Jobson, Meghan Markle was taken aback during her first visit to the ‘Waleses’ apartment about the contrast that exists in terms of material wealth between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William. Jobson’s book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales reveals that Meghan Markle thought Harry “deserved more materially” than he received from the royal family.
In January 2017, Markle went with Harry to Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace which is situated in one of London’s most elegant neighborhoods where William and Kate Middleton live. It is alleged that according to New York Post, there was a juxtaposition between their grand comfort and Harry’s Nottingham Cottage which comparatively modest.
“Meghan did not envy them but she was surprised at how different their living conditions were. She thought Harry should have been given more by way of material comforts by his own family.” Such inequality might have played a part in increasing tensions between the couples.
Harry himself has described feeling self-conscious about Nottingham Cottage’s smallness compared to William and Kate’s grand house in his memoir Spare.
