An eight-year-old Pekingese called Wild Thang won the World’s Ugliest Dog 2024 contest in Petaluma, California on June 21st. Out of the eight dogs in the running – most of them homeless until they found their true homes from animal shelters- wild thang managed to get through
According to an article on Sky news, this is his fifth attempt at the competition having come second thrice and eventually coming up top today. Year just prior to moving to retire in North Bend, Oregon. He used to live in Los Angeles.
His unique appearance results from a fight with canine distemper that he fought at ten weeks old. He cannot grow teeth due to an illness he suffered as a small puppy; hence, his tongue always hangs out and one leg became deformed because of it.
The contest known as World’s Ugliest Dog is commemorating its nearly fiftieth year now and these words were say: “Every dog is special and unique regardless of their imperfections”
These dogs are not “ugly” but wonderful creatures whose company we enjoy and they deserve admiration throughout the world this is what we can read on its website.
