There is a legendary love saga of actress Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi which will soon be brought to life on screen in a feature film Kamal Aur Meena. Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra of Maharaj and Hichki fame, the film will cover the duo’s relationship over two decades and end with the making of Pakeezah.
Bilal Amrohi, grandson of Kamal Amrohi, could not help celebrating the film saying, “It is our great privilege to bring to the audience for the very first time the untold love story and the hardships endured in the making of Pakeezah, the magnum opus of my grandparents. Kamal Amrohi Sahab was a great envisionary and director, while, the other half of this great cinematic duo – Meena Kumari ji was a historian waiting to be written about in Indian cinema.”
Sanjay Dutt Supports the Film
As if the officially commisioned poster of Kamal Aur Meena was not enough, actor Sanjay Dutt uploaded the trailer video of the film version on the Internet. “Dear Saachi, Dear Bilal, wish you best for the new project – all the best for your new film and please make it a hit! Lot of love, Sanjay Mamu. Must. Let me put in a review of the film,” he posted.
Insights from Personal Letters and Journals
Bilal Amrohi also disclosed the fact that the historical unscripted-style documentary will comprise the new films, where more than 500 pieces of old letters and diaries from Rukhsaar Amrohi, the daughter of Kamal Amrohi, will be used in the film that have never been revealed before about his grandparents’ relationship. “I do not think that there are people who in the world will tell this story which is so terrible, brutal heart breaking,” Bilal slowly spoke.
Director Siddharth P Malhotra on His Perspective
Director Siddharth P Malhotra consents on how he sees everyone in the story of love Realistic. The heavy burden regarding how to tackle a life like this love story translational tries weighed on his mind as well; “It’s a fantastic opportunity to direct such a beautiful story based in reality, however the pressure is enormous. In fact, it was a love affair, as well as a creative partnership, which continued from their first meeting when she was 18 and he was 34, till the completion and release of Pakeezah, which lasted over two decades,” he stated.
Malhotra also expressed excitement at induction of superb team including Bhavani Iyer, Kausar Munir, Irshad Kamil, and AR Rahman for the film. “Kamal Sahab and Meena ji have been my idols, not just for their contribution to the cinema, but also for the energy that they put in to it. I am really looking forward to the day where I will be able to tell their story on screen,” he said.
The movie, which also has the involvement of Bilal Amrohi, Saregama and Rohandeep Singh as the producer will start production in 2025. After the announcement of Kamal Aur Meena, many people were buzzing since their music was composed by maestro AR Rahman. While there was no information on the casting yet, the buzz was already there since this was aiming to adapt one of the classic romance stories from Bollywood.
