The sudden death of actor Matthew Perry of ‘Friends’ fame in 2021 due to recreational drug abuse came as a terrible shock to fans across the globe. Recent trends have revealed, however, that the issue might have been associated with profound feelings of romance failure. In an interview, one of Perry’s ex-girlfriends shared shocking details concerning Perry’s state of mind in his last days, describing how he grieved over all that he couldn’t achieve.
A love that was and shall never be again
The former assistant and later a girlfriend to Perry, Kayti Edwards, reported that there was a general sense of awe surrounding Perry’s, even during his relationships with famous actresses. He always referred to Rachel Dunn as ‘the love of his life’, over and over again or the Mirror US. Rachel Dunn, who is over a decade younger than Perry, was someone. Who showed Perry some of the joys of life and made him feel stable for the first time in years in answer to Perry’s disappointment.
As reported by the Mirror US, Edwards spoke about Perry’s strong guilt after having ended his relationship with Rachel. “He was very happy, very contented and most importantly was sober when he was with her,” Edwards claim. “But after they broke up, it seems like everything went down hill for him.”
The downward spiral
For Edwards, Perry’s breakup with Rachel was a critical event in his life, and one that heralded his terrible descent into addiction. Edwards was also surprise by Perry’s transformation. “I could see there was a significant change in him after they split,” she recalled. “He began abusing more drugs like it was as if he just surrendered. There was so much sadness that he had, and I think that’s what tormented him.”
Perry had a brief two year relationship with Rachel, yet it still can be said that it changed Perry greatly. Edwards points out that it was not so much about losing Rachel, but the very uncomplicated and real love they both had. “Rachel fell in love with him before he grossed the main transfer. It’s that pure love kind, and I think that’s why it affected him when it ended, that’s why it ended so badly,” Edwards explains.
A feeling of remorse that is eternal
Perry had once confided in Edwards that he, for one, was sorry for not having married Rachel. ‘He wanted kids, he wanted a family, he wanted all those things. ’Now I think he was under pressure, feeling the clock was ticking and he had not had time to fulfill these or few of them,’ Edwards remembered. But after Rachel, Perry had relationships with other women, yet they didn’t seem to matter to him. ‘He was still so much in love with her, and I doubt he ever found that kind of love any more,‘ said one of his acquaintances.
Perry’s emotions in relation to Rachel were such that he remarked as reported by Radar Online saying her as one of the will’s beneficiaries he prepared in 2009. This somehow Bahaviour helps explain why Perry behaved unconventionally and looked for Rachel sitting in all the FEMA trailers.
