Manisha Koirala tells how she was affected in her relationships and personal growth by battling cancer. I realized only that my immediate family was around me. She revealed that her diagnosis of cancer led to some eye-opening realizations, especially about the support system she believed in.
“I thought we would party together, travel together, play together but that’s not it. No one can take another person’s pain so they can’t feel their own pain. Can’t feel the pain. It is human nature and I found myself lonely , this is when I realized that only my immediate family were around me”, she told New Delhi TV.
Although a large affluent family made up of both wealthy parents and siblings, she noted their absence during such difficult moments. “I also have a huge koiralakandan . Nobody came. In fact, I belong to a rich family where everyone can afford it; you know? My shortsightedness, these are my parents; this is my brother; that is his wife; after everyone goes out of my life these are the people who will be with me and for whom there is no question at all about who comes first into my life. They come first in my life, everybody else later.” She said.

She spoke on therapy as key to handling her illness while admitting that therapy had been helpful during such an emotional breakdown. Her focus on family has been reemphasized following this occurrence as she values those close to her most in times of sickness.
Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer went into treatment in New York in 2012 and also spoke about the challenges that continue after recovery. In addition, she admitted losing productivity at work due to inability to manage depression and mood swings which resulted from struggling against cancer.
