Manisha Koirala recalls hypocrisy of Bollywood 90’s; says “Actresses are not meant to be drinking alcohol”.
The actress recounted her experience during the 1990s, saying. “During Saudagar, people around me told me not not tell people I am drinking vodka because actresses are not meant to be drinking alcohol there was a coke mixed with vodka and I learnt that new thing.” I was supposed to say that ‘I am having coke.” So I went down and said to my mom,” do you know what?
I’m having coke, but she knew I put vodca inside it and she said, ‘Listen if you are having vodca then just say you are having vodca don’t say you are having coke don’t lie for such small little things’. For example if i were dating somebody i am dating somebody. You can judge me all you want but this is who i am, i live on my own terms”
She further opined, “I faced some flak for it because in those days heroes could have many girlfriends they could be macho men but an actress was supposed to be this no no no body is touching me and we’re very untouched It was also misunderstood as (she is) very easy or easy girl But I took it on my stride Just because I have personal life or a boy friend doesn’t mean unprofessional in my life. I love my work.We had some very warped value system for actresses, which didn’t go well with me.”
On work front Manisha made her debut with Subhash Ghai’s Saudagar. She marked her OTT debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The Diamond Bazaar and received a lot of praise for it.
