On Tuesday, a constable working at the Peenya police managed to arrest a bogus retired BESCOM engineer who was masquerading as a Police inspector and driving around in a vehicle with police sticker on it while using a walkie-talkie to defraud people.
Following information from an anonymous person, Sanjeev Maruthi, the constable approached Gangadhar alias ‘Inspector’ on Tuesday. Incidentally, Truecaller also identified another number belonging to him as one used by a Police Inspector of Peenya Police Station.
A preliminary inquiry had indicated that this alleged police poseur might have swindled money from many individuals after promising them some official assistance. This man had been misleading people using false ID card for which purpose he further sullied the good name of his own profession.
According to one officer, there was so much sensitivity that they gave it to Central Crime Branch for further investigations.
