On July 26, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left for New Delhi and announced that she will attend NITI Aayog meeting in the capital on July 27 in order to “voice over”.
Ms. Banerjee’s decision to go for the meeting comes as many Opposition party-ruled states’ chief ministers shy away from attending the meeting which is likely to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I’m going to sit there for some time. If they allow us to speak out we will record. Otherwise I’m going to protest and leave the meet. I will try to speak for my state,” Ms. Mamata Banerjee told newsmen before leaving for New Delhi.
Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Chief Minister is expected to participate in this meeting and said he will speak on behalf of everyone.”
Furthermore, West Bengal CM accused Central government of discrimination against her state as well as other opposition party ruled states in budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23rd.” This political bias in Budget cannot be reconciled with,” she stated.
According to Ms. Banerjee a minister and party members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attempted to divide West Bengal.
“These efforts cannot be tolerated at all. If West Bengal is divided then India is divided, we don’t stand with that,” she stated in response to North East development union and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar who suggested north Bengal should be included in NorthEast region .
According to the CM, while one hand is implementing an economic blockade on the state; another hand seeks to change its geography through dividing it up.
