When Anurag Kashyap called out ‘entourage culture,’ it generated a lot of commentary among the news outlets, with some people accusing him of being insensitive. Shaan Muttathil, who has been doing hair for Jacqueline Fernandez for several years now, decided to hit back at the director. The makeup artist also worked with Radhika Merchant in the past and she referred to his film’s costumes which are basically Rs 250 cotton sarees as de-glam avatars.
Makeup artist accuses Anurag Kashyap of being jealous
Shaan condemned Anurag Kashyap during a Phitte Muh podcast for feeling envious about the amount makeup artists and other team members make from an entourage. “What Anurag sir is saying is his world, his bubble. But there’s another world too. Will this Anurag sir, after so many hits, go and do a movie for what a newcomer director will do? No. Of course, there’s a lot of jealousy, and I completely understand. Because we do get paid more than managers, than first ADs, and people in the camera department,” he said.
Artist takes a dig at Kashyap’s non-commercial, de-glam films
Shaan further stated that these movies feature women wearing cheap sarees worth just Rs 250 each. “Of course he can lose his s**t when he hears ₹1.5 lakh for makeup and hair when his heroines don’t need makeup and hair either” explains Shaan. Most people usually earn less than 100k or 200k only ten of us actually get that so first off I wouldn’t be getting that call from him anything first off. He would have had to call me to get those dark circles under eyes and frizzy hair because that’s how his heroines look.”
What Anurag Kashyap said
Anurag Kashyap revealed how much the entourages of stars can cost in an interview, where he spoke about what happens when a film’s budget is sky rocketing past its initial estimate because of those expensive ‘teams.’ He had shared this revelation with Janice Sequeira, saying, “Somebody has a chef who charges ₹2 lakh per day to make this strange healthy food. Jo dekh ke lagta tha ye khana hai? Yeh to bird feed hai. Itna chhota sa aata tha (After seeing it, it doesn’t even look like food. It looks so less, like a bird feed)”.”
