The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area is Major General V.T. Mathew.
Major General Ravi Murugan, who left the position on July 1, passed the baton to Mathew. This was after he had served in Indian army for 37 years.
Major General Mathew is an ex-student of Sainik School, Kazhakootam, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He joined 11 Madras Regiment as a Second Lieutenant in December 1988.
During his distinguished service spanning over a period of 35 years, he has held various important instructional appointments including staff and peacekeeping assignments with UN. As Military Observer he was with United Nations Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) before serving as Chief Operational Officer at Force HQ UNISFA Sudan.
Prior being GOC Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area; he was MGGS (Doctrine), HQ Army Training Command (ARTRAC).
