The Maitri Setu will soon be in operation, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Sunday.
On March 9, 2021, the Matri Setu connecting South Tripura’s Sabroom over river Feni with Bangladesh’s Ramgarh was inaugurated together and Agartala- Nischintapur (Indian part of Agartala-Akhaura rail link) was inaugurated by Mr. Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on November 1, 2023. However, none of these connectivity facilities has been operationalized yet.
“Election is almost over and a new government will be formed. Under the leadership of PM Modi, who has always emphasized the Act East Policy and provided us with HIRA (highway, i-way, railway, airway) model, the Maitri Setu will become operational soon”, the Chief Minister told reporters on May 17.
The trial in Agartala-Akhaura railway link has already been completed and it will also be made operational soon,” he said adding that many investors are coming to the north eastern State to invest in them.
“The future is shining for Tripura. After establishing rail connectivity we would reach Kolkata within a very short span of time” he said.
On May 15 Anil Kumar Khandelwal Member Infrastructure Railway Board went to Nischintapur railyard (Indian part of Agartala–Akhaura) to inspect the ongoing work there.
“The construction work of Agartala-Akhaura railway project has almost been completed. Now train service will start after mutual consultation,” he added.
Debasish Nandi,Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Manager, Agartala told PTI on Saturday,” We are ready to open up passenger movement phase at Maitri Setu. All necessary arrangements including immigration have been made at Sabroom Land Custom Station (LCS). Goods movement will follow suit. The beginning of passenger movement would be decided by Delhi and Dhaka.”
